Forgotten Teachers
109 British Council teachers have been left behind in Afghanistan. These teachers delivered courses on teacher training, English language and British values, including equality, diversity and inclusion.
Employed to achieve UK Government Goals
The teachers were employed full time by the British Council to deliver UK Government programmes throughout Afghanistan, in order to assist the UK Government in Countering Violent Extremism, by achieving change from within. The teachers have since been left behind.
Why are they at risk?
Having represented the British Council & UK Government the teachers are a direct target for the Taliban. Further to this, the sensitive and controversial nature of the content they were employed to teach puts them at even greater risk.
